The Rainbow New Zealand Charitable Trust, Aotearoa’s longest running LGBTQI+ charity, is delighted to announce details of our upcoming Rainbow Celebration GALA fundraiser.

Building on 20 years of fundraising tradition, this event will offer an evening of high energy entertainment including a range of performers and an auction while the format moves from a formal dinner to a glamour ball with live musicians that is more inclusive and affordable for members of the community. The Rainbow Celebration GALA will host up to 300 opinion leaders and supporters from the general and rainbow communities, and business sector.

While New Zealand is a world leader in LGBTQI+ rights, there is still much work to be done and raising much-needed funds for distribution to the community is Rainbow NZ Trust’s purpose. With the Trust’s national funding mandate the calls for support from LGBTQI+ organisations around Aotearoa New Zealand have grown significantly in the past year as awareness of our ability to provide vital financial support grows and many events and activities have been particularly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The need has never been greater and we are pleased to offer business supporters a chance to help us continue to provide vital funding to Rainbow organisations throughout New Zealand by sponsoring our event this year.

Georgina Beyer is an iconic leader in the rainbow community, well-known nationally and internationally as the world’s first openly transgender mayor and Member of Parliament. She is a recent recipient of the Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to LGBTIQA+ rights.

The event will feature three segments with high energy performances from a range of entertainers across all communities. These include Brazilian dancers, New Zealand’s leading drag performers and leading covers band, Sugar Town (previously known as The Mermaids).

As an iconic presenter in the rainbow community, Steven Oates brings several years of experience in the fields of journalism, presenting award winning television shows and hosting live events.

The Wharf is an iconic venue and popular function space for clients looking for a unique venue with waterfront views.

The space is ideal for a range of celebrations as it is designed in the round, giving sightlines to the stage area from all seating in the venue as well as stunning city nightline views.

Auctions continue to be a major part of our ability to raise the funds needed to support the community with a range of items that reflect the spirit of the event.

A selection of items including unique experiences and high-end products and services will be auctioned during a short live auction at the event. Small items will be featured in an online auction.

Sponsors are encouraged to donate items for the auction.

Michelle Maitland brings many years of experience as a successful auctioneer in the Rainbow charity sector and is extremely skilled at enticing bidders to increase their bids.
