October 1, 2025“We belong in spaces where we’ve historically been underrepresented”
Scholar Spotlight | Angelina Warn
This year has been such a transformative journey as I’ve nearly completed my first year of studying towards a Bachelor of Engineering. When I first started, I knew it would be a big step up, but I couldn’t have imagined how much I would grow both academically and personally.
One of the highlights has been getting involved with the Engineering Society and the Women in Engineering Club. Through these groups, I’ve met people who share my passions and values, and I’ve learned that engineering isn’t just about problem-solving, it's about collaboration, leadership, and community. The Women in Engineering community in particular has been a huge source of encouragement and inspiration, showing me that we belong in spaces where we’ve historically been underrepresented.

Living in halls this year has also been a big part of my journey. Being surrounded by such a diverse group of people has expanded my perspective and helped me grow in confidence. The friendships and connections I’ve made will stay with me far beyond this first year.
Looking back, one thing I wish I had known when I started is that it’s okay not to have everything figured out straight away. University can feel overwhelming at first, but surrounding yourself with supportive people and being open to new opportunities makes all the difference. I’d encourage first-year Rainbow students to seek out communities whether that’s through clubs, halls, or support networks because those connections will make the hard days easier and the good days even better.
Finally, I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who makes the Rainbow Scholarship possible. Your support has not only lightened the financial load of study, but also reminded me that there is a community standing behind me, cheering me on. Knowing that there are people who believe in the potential of Rainbow students has been such a motivating force throughout my first year. Thank you for making this journey possible for me and for many others to come.
